Following on from his excellent performance in this year’s Solitaire du Figaro, rising solo sailor Alan Roberts has just finished 9th in the overall results for the Generali Solo in France. The event is made up of 3 championship events with a mixture of inshore, coastal and offshore racing. This is the first time that a British sailor has made the top 10 and rounds off an excellent year of solo sailing in France for Alan.
Earlier in the year, sailing in his 33ft Beneteau Figaro Magma Structures, Alan finished 9th in the grueling Solitaire du Figaro; the best result for a British skipper in 40 years. Alan is part of an impressive crop of new offshore racing sailings coming up through the ranks of British sailing.
Alan is a qualified naval architect who is passionate about engineering and spent some time working at Magma Structures building composite structures. Aged 25 Alan remains firmly committed to solo racing in the Figaro class with his eyes set ultimately on the solo prize of the Vendee Globe.
